The Entry Foyer#First Impressions

Our Foyer on My Humble Home and First Impressions

This is our entry foyer.  As you can see there are still remnants from Easter remaining.  Our foyer opens up to the dining room on the right and the living room on the left.  Straight ahead is the family room and the eat-in kitchen to the right.

The first two rooms get passed over a lot.  When we have a group of people over though, it seems a few of the women will always migrate to the living room.  It is much cozier and more conducive to conversation, and I suppose it is much more feminine than the other rooms.  The guys never end up there, but we do have a game room in the basement, where you will surely find them!

As you can see, the main floor has a very open floor plan.  Confidentially, I am a bit claustrophobic and love the openness.  I suppose it can be a curse and a blessing since if there is a mess it is there for all to see.  The blessing outweighs the curse.

There are always things we have to do to fix or work on the house, but I love my home.  #first impressions.

Thanks, Nancy. I like for people to come in through the front door the first time they visit, first impressions you know. My children seem to always bring people through the garage, into the hall where the first view is the laundry room!

Hi Debra! What a lovely entrance way to your home! Truly a home of beauty and grandeur! I love the detailed molding and the drapes that unveil each room. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks, Maria! Our home had very little molding when we had it built. I have gradually added it through the years. It makes such a difference. The little boxes that the drapery falls from were an idea I got from Christopher Lowell’s show years ago. I added the trim to kick them up a notch. Believe it or not, I have cut most of the trim myself, using the electric miter saw, but on occasion I just use the hand saw and the miter box.

What a powerful first impression your home makes! And I love how you describe that each room has a feel, or style of its own. That makes me want to come visit you very much.

Thank you, Diane! It’s interesting to read how your home is perceived by others, isn’t it? If you are ever in northern Kentucky, I am sure a visit would be welcomed.

I just love your entry, so tall, and grand and open. It feels like a villa/mansion to me. If you don’t mind, I can see myself luxuriating in that space. Since your curtain rods hang so high do you chang the curtains often/ With a really tall ladder, too, I bet.
