Sharing Myself: Inside and Out

Welcome to my home. I don’t live here alone so it is also the House of Compromise. No Crystal Chandeliers. No Pink. No Purple. But it is mine. And his. Together ours, which is the best place to be.

The Red Arrow gives a sense of direction and a place to hang your coat and hat. Come on in!

Comfortable seating with plenty of pillows is a must.

The living room includes a place on the sofa for the cat. The coffee table is not decorated…it is always buried in never ending reading material and current projects.

Dining room hutch and buffet open to living room on one side and the kitchen on the other.

Dining room table. We live here. It’s laundry day.

The kitchen. It bothers my husband more than me that it still looks like this after owning the house for 3 1/2 years. The counter-tops are laminate that’s torn in places and all the edging has come off. The only reason it still looks like this is because I cannot decide what I want. Refinished or new cabinets? Granite (yawn), marble (expensive), quartz (1000‘s to choose from), or concrete? And then there‘s the back splash….

You had me at the red arrow! Great idea to do a tour. I love the pillows and comfortable sofa. Makes one feel right at home. I have always found that when I clear a surface, the next one in the room finds something to put on it! 🙂 Nice to meet you!

Hi there!! You might be surprised at how much (or how little!) marble is! We found it was less than $10 more per square foot than ikea Quartz and comparable to granite- more than some and less than others. Just put it in our kitchen and we love it 🙂

Carmen, I saw your later post first, so as I was looking at this one, I felt a funny feeling of familiarity sneaking up on me. I’ve been here before! Haha so great that we can get to know each others’ homes as if we have actually visited one another. I call dibs on the chair with the bicycle pillow. 🙂

House of Compromise, so true! Although I don’t always get my way to decorate as I please, I’m essentially happy with our marriage of tastes. I have to give my husband credit with some pretty cool ideas, too. And, he often provides good, practical grounding and bounding when my creative ideas get too far out there. You have a lovely lived-in home, Carmel. Thanks for sharing.

Carmel! This is great! Thank you for sharing. The kitchen (now) looks awesome. You are a good writer – you made me chuckle out loud!. Your home reminds me of your home(s) that your folks created for you girls all throughout the years – from Sheldon St. to the one in Torrance, to Ione, CA… I’m proud of you, my lovely niece.

Your house is so sweet & I love your front door. I can tell your home is full of love. 🙂 As for the kitchen, it’s a great space! If you are wanting an idea to save $, I would take off the cabinet doors and spray the cabinets. Replace the doors with new ones that you would enjoy and have them sprayed to match the cabinets. Good luck with choosing a hard surface. I personally LOVE my tobacco quarts. It looks very much like real marble but doesn’t stain. You might want to check it out. 😀
