The new garden pond

Tony and I have spent most of this past week digging the hole and installing the new pond. We have spent a small fortune in the garden centre for pond plants and garden plants but come the summer when it looks pretty we will know that every penny was well spent.. We will move the fish over from our old pond next weekend and then we can start pulling that pond out to create our new patio. We have two lovely chimeneas to put on the patio and they will keep us toastie warm on the chilly evenings if we want to sit outdoors. The little garden around the pond does all look a little bare and new but give it time and the garden will be a mass of colour all summer long.

wow that is awesome! You both put so much work into that. It’s going to look beutiful this summer and I can’t wait to see the pictures! Do you know a lot about ponds? We have a pretty big one in the back of our house but it’s made of cement and not retaining my water at the moment. Henryk just sealed the pond with a painted water lock, but it didn’t work! ๐Ÿ™ Also, are you installing a pump? I’d love to have any wisdom shared regarding ponds. Btw, had some raspberry jam from Yorkshire on my toast for breakfast and thought of you! hahahaha Hope you’re enjoying this weekend!

I wish I could help but I really don’t know very much about ponds at all so this is a learning curve for me. I think if I wanted to keep the existing leaky pond I would buy a proper pond liner. They aren’t cheap but will last you a very long time. I have been researching pond plants on google and pinterest.

We have had a pond in the backyard for years. Oh, yes I do have stories! I actually had a goldfish, which was over a foot long. It disappeared one night. We think a raccoon got it.
The pond is a two-tiered pond and there is a water pump. A few years ago, I saw a water tower for fish on Pinterest and came up with my own take on it. If you are interested, it is on my website, Myhumblehomeandgarden.com. Hover over My Humble Garden tab and it will be in the drop down menu.

Cherie, this is such a lot of work…you really put me to shame! I managed to buy a pot of pansies this week. I can’t wait to see the fruits of your labour! I am betting you will be very pleased with the money you spent. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Cherie! Your new pond looks great! I like that you have a wall in front of it so you can sit and enjoy the fish and there greenery if you wanted to. Can’t wait to see more pics when the fish are in and that plants have matured some!
