How fun! My husband and I bought our first home this past fall, and are so excited to be embarking on this new adventure. Itโs in decent shape, but needs a lot of aesthetic work (every room needs to be painted, we have bright blue kitchen countertops, etc). Weโve made it through a few rooms so far, but thereโs lots more work to do as we make it our own! At the same time, my friend and I got this crazy idea that we should launch a blog together to chronicle the good, the bad, and the ugly as we both make over our fixer uppers (and work full-time jobs). Thus was born Plaster & Disaster (www.plasteranddisaster.com). So excited to see where the future leads!

Cute! I love that couch!
Thanks Kylee! It’s actually just the Karlstad from IKEA ๐ We bought it off craigslist for a discount, and I spray-painted the legs so it looked less generic. The whole living room has come a really long way…it was red (dare I say marsala?) when we moved in… All the details and more pictures are at http://www.plasteranddisaster.com/living-room-makeover-goodbye-marsala-hello-gallery-wall/ if you’re interested!
I have a Karlstad too, Love it! And I just love your blog name. Too cute! Best of luck on the fixing upping!
Thanks Brittany! Figured we should give people fair warning that there would be plenty of disasters along the way… ๐
Haha nice name on that blog. And I am dying to see a direct shot of that gallery wall that hangs over the couch!
Thanks Diane! I’ve got a lot more photos of the gallery wall and info on each piece of art over at the blog, if you’re curious to see more! Here’s the specific post: http://www.plasteranddisaster.com/living-room-makeover-goodbye-marsala-hello-gallery-wall/
Congratulations on your first home! It’s always fun when it’s a fixer upper, and then you can truly call it your own once your finished! I secretly love that detailed ceiling, its unique and adds a bit of character
Good luck on your journey! It looks great so far can’t wait for more ๐
Thanks Lauren! I definitely wanted a fixer upper, even though my husband was more reluctant. The ceiling seems to be polarizing — some people love it, while it drives me a little crazy. But I’m glad there are yay-sayers out there! ๐
I love that gallery wall! I have the karlstad and 2 of the covers for it. It fits my husband and I as well as the 3 pets with room to spare! lol It is too big for my current living room so I am on a hunt for something else at the moment.
For a fixer-upper this room sure looks good already! I’ll look forward to watching your journey!
