Kitchen Reno Complete!

It’s finished!  It wasn’t nearly as painful as I thought it would be.  I did reuse my cabinets and just had the doors and drawers replaced and the frames resprayed.  I purchased new honed granite countertops, appliances and handles on the drawers.  I reused my sink, faucet, trash can and knobs on the doors because I liked them enough and my budget was tight.  In case you can’t remember the before…

Notice the wall?  That was the reason this whole renovation took place.  My cooktop was under that very low microwave.  I spent my whole life in that little corner.  My whole big kitchen was behind me.

Here is how it looks now…

My favorite parts of the new kitchen are my new cooking surface, my dinner bell (sorry I have no idea how to turn pictures) and my glass rack.

I couldn’t decide on a backsplash.  I looked at a million things and couldn’t commit.  I decided to use special handwritten family recipes until I find a backsplash I love.  Who knows?  Maybe this will stay?

I ask you all for advice on the counter stools.  I looked forever for something I loved and could hold up to my kids (tough combo to find).  I decided I needed warmer wood and leather tones to warm up the black and white space.  I went with a distressed oak stool from Arhaus for the island and a leather one from Restoration Hardware for the peninsula.  The piping on the Restoration Hardware chairs is horrible so they are replacing them for me in October.  Hopefully my children won’t destroy them in the meantime!

(sorry I can’t turn the pictures.  Also, just noticed the cracked outlet cover, nice!)

I hope you enjoyed my little tour.  I really wish I was a better photographer and that I knew how to edit my pictures to turn them correctly, but you get the idea!

Omg Jody this turned out AMAZING!!!!!! What a big change taking out the wall above the stove. It makes much more sense with the new layout! I am drooling over the double ovens and all that space! The new lights are gorgeous! Will u move the old granite into your bathrooms or do you already have hard surfaces there? This made my night! Great job! X Keep us posted after the holidays of how it felt to prepare in such a lovely kitchen! Big fan of black and white too!

Thanks, guys. I am really enjoying cooking in it! I host Thanksgiving for both sides of our family every year so I can’t wait to report back how it went! Still learning my new ovens. My cookies have not been that great lately but i’ll get the hang of it. My old granite is currently in garage. My sister will take some for her bathroom and I might use it in the boys bathroom whenever I decide to update it (last on my list bc boys are GROSS in bathrooms and I have one more boy to potty train!) I will say that acting as the general contractor was super hard. I would maybe do it for the bathrooms down the road, but probably not for anything this big again.

Your new kitchen looks awesome, Jody, and I really like the “backsplash”! I see I’m not the only one with photo-upload challenges. 🙂

Superb! I love the changes and smart decisions you made to keep the budget in line. I particularly love the lighting over the island,. The glass rack looks like one I see Jo Gaines use a lot when she stages on Fixer Upper…so cool! What a treasure to have the hand-written recipes! My friend has some in her kitchen and they are so special. I have real trouble committing to a back-splash too! Love your solution! Thanks for sharing Jody. Ya gotta love those picture fairies! 🙂
