How My New Home Office Came to Be . . .

Hi Neighbors! Itโ€™s been a while! The past few months have been very busy for our family, around our home & new adventures for our kids(young adults!). We installed New flooring in the Kitchen and Living Room which I have already posted. My husband and I fell in love with the color & style of the floors, that we decided to have the same flooring laid in our Master Bedroom and my Daughterโ€™s room on the second floor of our home.

After our contractor laid the floors, and the room was empty, I decided to give the wall a fresh coat of light gray paint and repaint the white trim a brighter white. Then we moved all my daughterโ€™s furniture back in her room. Her New bedroom looked so bright and refreshing. I should have taken some photos. So, about 2 weeks after all the renovations in her room, she decided that wanted to move out and get an apartment. That was not expected so soon! But, I am so proud of my Megan . . . wanting her independence. (She really is only a hop, skip and a jump from us, which we are very happy about. I actually see her more now than when she lived at home! So towards the end of April, I moved my home office from a small section in our Family Room to my own space. Iโ€™m having a lot of fun working on the progress of this room between work & family. So this is what I have done so far. ๐Ÿ™‚

BEFORE. . .

AFTER . . .

I will have more updates on the rest of the my office space. What to do with enclosing the closets?? Wood bi-fold doors or Drapes? Any suggestions??

Hey Maria! I LOVE that office space! Absolutely every detail! The mirror and plant in the tray on the desk really adds layers of interest. The No. 7 jug is a great color and the clock gives a nice vintage accent. I really like your chair and the monogrammed pillow is a nice touch. Also, the shells on the wall give another interesting accent. Well done!
Now about those grown adults of yours…how nice that they each have found someone to love. It is such a comforting feeling to know our children are happy and independent, eh? I know what you mean about seeing your daughter more often. Now that my daughter is in her own place she has routine visits to see her grandmother and I. The special thing about that is that when she comes by, she is there for a visit and we have great conversations. Sometimes she even drops by and cooks for me! Yay!
Oh right…I like the flooring. It looks similar to the type my sister has in her place. It is clean and the wood adds warmth.
I have been busy this year as well. I share the care of my mom with my sister so the days are full. Also, I became a licensed wedding officiant this spring and I performed my first wedding for a lovely couple just yesterday. They had a small casual wedding and were married on a wharf beside the ocean. It was very special and a great way to begin my career as an officiant.
Hope you are having lovely weather this summer and are enjoying each day. Bye for now! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Nancy! It is so good to hear from you! Thank you so much for all your kind comments on my New Office!
I am so happy for my kids, yet I still worry. . . hoping they are Happy and hoping & praying they will be happy with the decisions they will have to make throughout their lives. They know that my Husband & I will always be there for them.
I’m sure caring for your Mom is a lot and probably doesn’t give you time for new projects and posting, but in the end caring, for family and being there for one another is most important in life.

And Congratulations on being an Officiant! That sounds so Interesting and Rewarding! Good for you!!

Hi, Maria! What fun to expand your office area into a separate room! It looks great! I think I would choose something for the closets to go with the coastal vibe you’ve created. How about louvered bi-folds that would look like shutters when closed? Or perhaps a light curtain fabric, maybe in stripes similar to the tray on the shelf? I also spent this spring working on my step-daughter’s bedroom–an unplanned consequence of pulling at the edges of wallpaper put up by the previous owners to see what was underneath…

Thank you so much Jennifer! It’s Great to hear from you! I keep going back & forth with what to do about the closets . . . Maybe If I can find the right pattern, agreeing with you about Striped Panels. Or, if I should just have my husband install Bi-folds again like we originally did for my daughters room when we first moved in. I guess in time, I will figure it out.
Anyway, sounds like you have a major project going on with getting rid of wall paper! I know that must not be fun! Yikes!
I hope all is well, and looking forward to your future posting!

Maria, I’m sure whatever you end up choosing will look great! The wallpaper turned out to be the easiest part of the re-do. I had resisted doing anything in the room for 3 years simply because I didn’t want to deal with that mess., but once I started pealing away from the corner, the paper was off the wall within 15 minutes. If I decide to share a before-after post, I will have to find a time to take the “after” photos when the teenage bedroom is not in its typical state of disarray! :-0 Cheers, Jennifer

The room looks so good! I love what you’ve done so far, Maria! It’s hard to have your kids move out (change is always hard!( but it’s a sign you’ve raised them to be independent! Good job, mama. It’s the beginning of a new wonderful phase!

Enjoy the space! I can’t wait to see what you decide on the closets!

Thank you so much Melissa! I have already moved some things around in my office. It usually takes me awhile to find contentment when decorating a room. But that’s the fun of it! Right! lol. Also, thanks for the compliment about raising kids. It’s not easy, but I can tell you after all these years, I am a proud Mama. And they definitely know they are Loved.
I hope to be sharing more of my office renovation soon! ๐Ÿ™‚
Thank you again for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much Cherie! I do love my new work space! But with other home projects going on and working, (in my office), I still need to address a few more things to make this room feel complete. I hope to share some updates soon.

    Hi Maria
That room looks like a lovely space to sit and think.
My first reaction when I saw the picture with the closets was “take them out!” But of course you may need them ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Anne! Even though my office is definitely used for working, I do feel like it is my very own little private woman space. I guess, just like men have “Man Caves”! lol. I do use the closets for storage and this space was once the second bedroom, so I wouldn’t want to get rid of the closets in case it would become a bedroom again. The closet on the left now has another “closet” in it filled with all my candle making supplies. That’s not what I do for work though. My candle making is a hobby. And the closet on the right it now filled with filed work papers & office supplies. Now all I need to do is decide on bifold doors or drapes to cover them! Decisions!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for stopping by.

Well, Maria, when someone moves out there is something moving in: your new office space. I think you don’t a thorough job with your office desk. My desks never looks as nice or clean as yours! You are one decorating lady. I hope you enjoy fall.

Hi Hanh, Yes, even though I miss my daughter living here, I am enjoying my own private work space. And believe me, you should see my office right now! I am very busy with work and even though I have a place for all my papers, they are everywhere! lol! I wish I could Decorate all day long! But as we all know, there are more important things in life and when I can find some “Me” time, I love my hobby of Decorating, by continuing to make our Home more Comfortable and Welcoming for all who enter. ๐Ÿ™‚
