My master bedroom furniture was from the 1980’s and made by the Amish in PA. It was my aunt’s bedroom set and then it was passed down to me. It served its purpose but really did not reflect “my style”
Over the last 5 years I have managed to change the bedding on it 8 times… Nothing made it seem right. I looked in stores at beds and they are mostly vaneer wood. I could see that mine was built superior and not using glue and staples. I kept questioning… should I get rid of a quality solid oak bed set?!
I got some paint from Annie Sloan and figured the last resort would be to paint.. I began painting the night stands in Annie Sloans white paint. I distressed it here and there. Afterwards, I decided to paint the bed in graphite. 
I found these beautiful Feather Imprint Knobs from Anthropologie for $14 each. I needed eight of them for 2 night stands! Ouch… that’s a lot of $$$$
I went into the World Market and took a look at the hardware. (A lot of their stuff is starting to look like Anthropologie!) The bin says 3 for $12.00 I don’t know about you, but it sure looks close enough to the Anthro ones to me! SCORE
After some Grey Owl paint on the wall, crown moulding, and some new bed linens, I asked my sister if she’d be willing to give me some of my grandmother’s hankies. I found 10×10 frames at Hobby Lobby that were 50% off and I made sure to use my 40% coupon! Below you can see Annie is pretty happy to have an updated room. *I kept my tiger oak antique dresser in the room. Although it doesn’t have paint on it, I think it warms up the room & I will keep it as is. The room still isn’t completed, but it is coming along nicely.

Painting your headboard dark and the nightstand white gives your bedroom a really nice appeal! Your bedroom now has a new refreshing Designer look! Beautiful!
OMG Nila!!!! I LOVE IT!!! Yes, I’m that excited! 😉 It’s like you pulled the ideas out of my head and put them in your room! I was just talking to my husband about what to do with our night stands and MAYBE someday making our bed a dark color. I hate to suggest that because he makes all of our furniture (it’s oak too). He works so hard on it, I don’t want him to think I don’t love it….I do. I just feel it’s getting dated now.
Anyway, I was thinking distressed cream night stands with MAYBE a dark bed! 😉 Thanks for the vision. I’m not sure if cream is the right color with all the cream I have now, so I’m saving that project for last. That way I can see the rest of my room unfold first.

Once again you’ve shown incredible creativity and design style Nila. I really agree with leaving the one piece unpainted. It provides the perfect foil for the other pieces. What an expressive little face Annie has! 🙂
Thanks Nancy. I am glad you agree about the dresser staying as is. Something in my heart said.. if the tiger oak has been serving families and holding their clothing since the early 1800’s… respect it. Maybe I am sentimental that way… lol

What a beautiful bedroom! I love everything about it. I have a dark headboard and have been wanting to paint my nightstands white. I wasn’t sure how it would look, but seeing your bedroom has shown me how nice the contrast will be. You have so many nice details in your room. I especially love the framed hankies from your grandmother….it looks so pretty and it’s sentimental too. Lovely room!

Oooh, though I love my bedroom, can I stay in your bedroom for a while? Just lovely. Nice paint job and I am glad you decided to keep your aunt’s furniture because they have good “bones” in them. Now furnitures are not real wood all the times. The bedroom looks pretty complete to me, but will be fabulous once you decide it is complete I am sure. I love the framed hankies…so vintage style.
Such an inspired room! It must make your heart sing a little bit to walk in now and smile. I have an old buffet with a hutch that had been in my step moms family, solid wood, beautifully made, and my husband cringes every time I say, I think we just need to paint it. One of these days…
