Coastal Master Bedroom

I did my master bedroom makeover late last Spring. I guess you can call it Coastal Country Chic. I don’t know how to really describe it. I know this bedroom is far from masterful! But I do like the final results. My room before had oatmeal (dark tan) colored walls and had more of a country look. Painting the walls blue was a big leap for me!! I had always used different shades of blue when painting my son’s room over the years, but never thought twice about it, because it was a boys room. I do like this blue. The color gave my room a whole new look. It feels brighter and fresher. Yet, to me, it still has the calming rustic feel that I was looking for.

I changed everything but the furniture and the cherry wood blinds. I bought new bedding, lamps, curtains and pictures. It literally took me a FEW months to get the room the way I wanted. . . buying and returning lamps and pictures was the most difficult part of this makeover. I purchased the bedding first and then I worked around that. I also bought a new night stand for my side of the bed. I chose an off white colored night stand just to brighten things up a little more.

I couldn’t get a brighter picture from this angle for the photo below, but just to give you an idea of how my new white night stand looks with the oak wood. I did buy 2 matching lamps of the lamp that is on the right (above). I had this matching lamp on my night stand too, but I decided I liked it better on my dresser as you will see in the next photo. The point is, I think mixing up the night stands and lamps can work. What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful wall colour Maria! What is it?
Yes, mixing up the nightstands is new and fun. I like the bedding you chose and the touches of “ocean”. It shows a theme without hitting one over the head with it! πŸ™‚
Another takeaway for me was the use of the hooks behind the nightstand. Over a year ago I purchased a weathered metal hook that is three umbrellas. I love it and have tried to find a spot where I think it works but haven’t been satisfied yet…I keep looking for an unexpected spot! I am now off to try your placement idea. Thanks! πŸ™‚

I love that beautiful bed and the pretty shade of blue is so restful. I made a patchwork quilt in soft shades of blue and I like to put it on the bed over a cotton sheet in the summer when it is too warm for the duvet. You make me want to paint the bedroom walls in a soft blue……… hmmmmn I feel a project coming on

Thank you Cheri! I have to admit that picking the right color blue can be challenging! When I first painted the walls, I had picked “Ocean View” by Behr., which I thought would be a darker blue and it turned out to be more of a turquoise blue. I lived with it for about a month and could NOT get used to it. So, I decided to paint my whole room again and I was so much happier with the “Russian Blue” color. πŸ™‚

I like it. Very subdued clolors and tranquil to me. Somehow it reminds of a nice coastal or country-ish bed and breakfast room. I would sleep soundly in there. I like the throw over the footboardand seashell decor and lamps. I like them all actually.

Thank you so much Hanh! Even though blue is considered a “cool” scale type of color in design, I was going for a subtle feel for my room. For the most part, I am pretty content with how it turned out for now. But there is always room for change! Lol! Thank you for stopping by! πŸ™‚

Lovely! A way to add more nautical theme, and unify your 2 night stands, is to redo the shades to match! Use an old costal map to cover them OR stencil nautical tools, shells, sea animals to personalize for whom ever will be using the room most.
My shades show pale pink shells & seahorses. (Female theme). The other shows a blue anchor. Ship wheel & a red lobster. Beige is the background on both sides.

Thank you Tanya! It seems the look I was trying to create kind of worked! You seem so creative with your home. If you had any ideas or suggestions for this room or any future posts, I would appreciate any advice from you. I Love your blog site too! Thank you for stopping by. πŸ™‚

Thank you Wendy! I’m glad you stopped by because I wanted you to see the 2 different night stands on either side of the bed. I did have my 2 tall matching lamps on either side of the bed which I had mentioned in my post. I did like them both there and I think it grounded the the 2 different night stands better, but decided that I liked the other taller lamp on my dresser too. About the Duvet cover, When I saw it on line, I wasn’t sure if thats what I wanted, but ironically, when I went into Pottery Barn, they had that same Duvet cover displayed on the bed and I Loved it so much better than online! Anyway, I like the choices you have made for your bedroom and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your makeover! πŸ™‚

Maria, one of the first things I noticed was your night stands and lamps! I really like that look. I’m so used to matching everything, it’s hard to get out of that mindset.? But I’m working on it. Soon as I find curtain rods, I will tackle the stands and lamps.
I’m so glad you love your duvet! I loved it too, but the first thing my daughter said was “mom, it’s just like what you have but in a different color.” That’s why I passed on it.

I love an eclectic furnished over time look, I think it makes a place warm & inviting. So I really like the mis matched tables and lights.

I also love your wall color. Before the storm my bedroom walls were blue, but the color I picked for the house after the storm didn’t transition well with the blue I used to have in my room – so for now my bedroom is the same color as the rest of the house. It’s calming so I don’t hate it, but I miss the blue. πŸ™‚

I love your blue room, Maria. The beautiful bedding was the first thing that caught my eye! It reminds me of my favorite place, the east coast.
If you are painting any more of your home, you might want to ask for a paint color fan from your paint store. I usually buy Sherwin William’s paint. They gave me one, but I know you can purchase them from some paint stores. It is much easier to see if the color is warmer or cooler by having all of the colors right in front of you. Fan out the color you are considering. To one side, the colors will have a cooler look and to the other side, a warmer look. If you want to find a color, which will go with warm or cool items, choose the color right in the middle. It will be more of a neutral. Having the color fan is so helpful when buying accessories, too! It is so easy to just take your fan with you. I do have a couple of posts on my website about choosing paint colors if you are interested @Myhumblehomeandgarden.com
