On Decorating a Rent House

Hi! I’m Andrea. I spend my days working as the Webmaster at a local Baptist University. At home I like to bake, quilt, and spend time with my husband and the cat.

My husband and I are currently renting, so I can’t do a lot of the things I would love to do to decorate. I do have a few nails in the walls, though I’m not allowed to put new ones in. That means my wall styling is very limited, so most of my decorating happens on my shelves. The above version is the most recent version of the shelves in my living room.

You can find out more about me at my blog: MouseInMyPocket.com

Come on in…

Hi there,

I really like the idea of joining this new neighborhood. I am lucky to already live on a great cul-de-sac where we are all friends.

We have been in our house for almost fifteen years and am I constantly changing a little thing here and there. Unless it’s winter, spring or summer break from school…then my husband and I (we are both teachers) usually have bigger projects underway.

This is the view as you walk in the door to our house. We just had new floors installed last summer. The green couch was in my grandma’s house in Chicago, but now lives with us in Southern California. The other couch belonged to my mom’s best friend’s mom who was like another grandma to me. I love to have this furniture with such sentimental value.

Our dining room has hosted many, many holidays, dinners and other parties each year. The next one will be this weekend.

Look forward to meeting everyone…

It Should be Fun!

Hi! My name is Lyzz, and I’m a recent widow, living in East Texas. I am downsizing from a big new house to a smaller ‘60’s era house, and I’m loving this opportunity to express whoever I am right now. On risky design decisions, my mantra is, “”If I love it – If not Now, When?” I love design, COLOR, and a good laugh – almost more than eating. I hope you’ll share my next chapter; it should be fun!

It all started with a bureau

Last year my Mum gave me some money, I decided to buy a bureau and found a neat, flat-pack jobby in a high street store. On the way to make my purchase I passed a charity shop and in the window was this beauty, of course any flat-pack plans fell by the wayside and both bureau and mis-matched chair came home with me.

I love it. It is the most beautiful thing in my house and has made me look at my home with new eyes. I have come to realise that the simple, modern furniture which fills our home, while practical, does not do anything for my spirit.

I want to live in a space that refreshes me, that brings me peace and makes me smile. The bureau has become a catalyst for change in my home and that is the story I hope to tell here.

Hello

I am so excited to have this chance to share and see what everyone has to offer here. My home was built in the 1940’s and we have been making small changes throughout the 13 years we have lived here. Most have been purely cosmetic… But a kitchen (and bath) remodel is on my short list. Our kids are 21 and 17 so we are shifting our thoughts and ideas of what we want our home to be. Always a work in progress! Thanks for the invitation to join y’all.

Get to know you/Housewarming

I am getting ready to retire in 6 months and after 40 plus years of working I am excited to have more time for fun things and fewer stresses.  Well I’m sure there will still be stress but at least I wont feel like I am constantly short of time.  I‘ve worked it I.T. since the mid 70’s and have been a systems analyst for the last 15 years.  I am over buying and warehouse management for a mid sized grocery chain.  We have 6 warehouses and 99 stores and if there are problems I get called in the middle of the night.  It will be great to not have that stress hanging over me in the near future.  My husband has been retired for 12 years and is looking forward to having me spend more time with him.

We are getting ready to list our current home so I’m trying to get it ready for listing.  We have a home we will be moving to 450 miles from here so I have that one to get ready.  Lots going on but soon I‘ll have more free time… once I get through this process!  I am looking forward to this ””neighborhood”” as I think I will need help decorating and turning the new house into a home.  So once I figure out how to post a picture I’ll be looking forward to you help and suggestions.  I don’t feel that I am too good as a decorator but I do want the new home to be a cozy loving place to be.

Growing Pains

When your house sells after being on the market for 2 days it can be both a blessing and a curse.  We left out tiny home 10 days ago and are currently renting while our potential new home is being built.  I’m an old house lover at heart so I’m secretly hoping that a perfect for us older home becomes available before the deal is done. If not, I’m ok with the new construction home and working to put my own spin on things to make it look a little less cookie cutter.  For now, we are learning to love each other in an even tinier duplex while we figure it all out. Can’t wait to see where we end up.

Our Front Door

Welcome to our home! The picture you see above is what was supposed to be a makeshift “curtain” for our front door. (It covers the bits of transparent glass in the window.) However, I liked the pattern on the wrapping paper so much I left it as a bit of frugal stained glass. Because… well, why not?

Transforming a fixer upper -- Plaster & Disaster

The fixer upper adventure

How fun! My husband and I bought our first home this past fall, and are so excited to be embarking on this new adventure. It’s in decent shape, but needs a lot of aesthetic work (every room needs to be painted, we have bright blue kitchen countertops, etc). We’ve made it through a few rooms so far, but there’s lots more work to do as we make it our own! At the same time, my friend and I got this crazy idea that we should launch a blog together to chronicle the good, the bad, and the ugly as we both make over our fixer uppers (and work full-time jobs). Thus was born Plaster & Disaster (www.plasteranddisaster.com). So excited to see where the future leads!

My Little Bit of Heaven

What about me, hmmm?  Well, here it goes. My husband and I have been married for 33 year and have three wonderful children, two daughters and a son.  You will get to know them later.  Our two daughters, between them, have six grand babies under the age of 5 and both girls are pregnant together again.  You will hear more about them later also.  We live on a small Pacific Northwest farm, only 6.5 acres and another 9 that we pasture our lovely cows on.  We also raise chickens for eggs, have one dog and too many cats. I’ve always had a love for decorating my home.  Right now my main focus has been on our “grandkids” bedroom.  Having a special place for them and knowing they can get all cozy in their little room is important to me.  I’ve been a homeschool mom, VBS Director, Support Group Leader and so much more.  My latest activity is Home Bible Study teacher, (Anyone else love the book of Ruth?) to some wonderful teenage girls and AWANA Club teacher.  Oh, I’m Linda by the way, and I look forward to meeting new friends and becoming part of a new community!  Oh, and thanks for the plate of cookies, they were delicious!
